“AKA Jane Roe”; documents, Norma McCorvey, the plaintiff in the landmark abortion-rights case Roe vs. Wade, and her self-described “deathbed confession”. McCorvey, who famously came out against abortion in 1995, says she was paid to do so by antiabortion groups, including Operation Rescue. The film is 80 minutes long. Like with past Documentary & Discussion Programs, please watch the film independently prior to the discussion. The film can be watched via streaming on Hulu (if you are a subscriber), FXnow which may be included in you cable package if you you have one, or purchased to stream from Amazon for $2.99. After watching the film independently, we will have a discussion of the documentary and its implications, as well as the history and future of the fight for reproductive justice. This will include a brief overview of where the law currently stands and what changes we might expect in the future based on recent and upcoming court cases, state law changes and medical advancements.
