A Moral Response to an Immoral Budget: JEWISH DAY OF ACTION – August 5, 2025
On August 5, NCJW Colorado will lead A Moral Response to an Immoral Budget: Jewish Day of Action as part of a nationwide effort to counteract the harmful Budget that was passed. With members of Congress returning home for the annual August recess, we’re showing up — loud and clear — to demand spending and legislation that reflects our Jewish values and invests in the well-being of women, children, and families.
As the budget law is enacted, we will not stand by while millions of people go hungry or without health care.
The Who and the Why
From NCJW INC.:
NCJW will not stand idly by while millions of people go hungry or without health care. That’s why on Tuesday, August 5, National Council of Jewish Women, together with partners MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger and the Network of Jewish Human Service Agencies, will lead A Moral Response to an Immoral Budget: Jewish Day of Action.
Together as a Jewish community, we’re going to send a clear message to Congress: Budgets are moral documents, and this one falls short. It kicks 17 million people off of their health care, takes food off the plates of hungry children, and is causing hospitals and clinics around the country to consider their futures. We’re joining forces so that when lawmakers return to Washington in September, they know that they must prioritize the health, safety, and dignity of women, children, and families in all future spending bills. Congress broke our social safety net. Now it’s on them to fix it.
Judaism teaches that the measure of a just nation is how it treats those most in need. A society that abandons the vulnerable has lost its moral compass, and so we are all called to speak out. Let’s raise our collective voice for justice on August 5.
As members of Congress return home for the August recess, we’re showing up loudly and Jewishly to demand that they fix what they broke and restore key funding to the social safety net programs that reflect our values — investing deeply in the well-being of women, children, and families. We will thank those legislators who stood with us during the recent budget fight and express our deep disappointment to those who didn’t. We will urge all of our lawmakers to show us they care about women, children, and families by using the legislative funding process hen they get back to Washington to make serious and beneficial investments in our communities.
This Jewish Day of Action is about moral clarity in the face of harmful policy.
