ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE UNDER THE NEW FEDERAL BUDGET – Lunch & Learn on September 18

How does the new budget affect access to medical care?

As many of our neighbors may lose their Medicaid overage, how will they obtain the medical care they need? How will the reduction of Medicaid payments affect your ability to receive care, especially non-life-threatening surgeries, in hospitals that may no longer receive funding from Medicaid for the patients they treat? Will my doctor’s practice remain viable if they were heretofore reliant on Medicaid payments without raising costs to me? How much longer will I have to wait for treatment? Will hospitals and doctors be able to obtain cutting edge diagnostic and surgical tools to keep improving medical care? Will the reduced research funding allow us to develop new and much-needed treatments and will we be ready for the next pandemic?

These are just some of the questions that are raised now that the federal government is instituting the budget provided under the “big, beautiful, bill.”  And there are still significant questions yet to be asked – the effects on Medicare and private insurance, for example.

Join us on  Thursday, September 18, 2025 at  11:30 am for our first Lunch & Learn of the year !!

Kristin Weissinger, JD, Director of State and Local Affairs in the Government Relations Department at UC Health discusses these questions and more regarding the changes to health care access as well as steps that can be taken to counteract the drastic and harmful changes made by the new budget.

This is certainly a topic that resonates with all of us and behooves us to take action to curb and prevent the damage that will be done.

Come learn what we can do, as a Section or individually, to stand up for our access to medical care and to start to restore what is being taken away from us.
