THE LAST YIDDISH SPEAKER By Deborah Zoe Laufer
Diane Gilboa, NCJW Colorado member and founder of Theatre Or has presented NCJW Colorado with a unique and exclusive opportunity to see the dress rehearsal of the Colorado Premiere of The Last Yiddish Speaker, prior to its opening to the general public.
This is a “must see,” award-winning play (2024 Jewish Plays Project) and deals with extraordinarily timely issues of identity, Anti-Semitism, white Christian nationalism, and the very threads of our being as Jews and as humans in a democratic, inclusive America. The reviews of the play are outstanding:
About The Last Yiddish Speaker by Deborah Zoe Laufer:
“I immediately thought it was important…It was timely, a really solid play that has a great story with characters that anyone could care about, very relatable, but also with some unique magic.” – Seth Rozin, founding artistic director of Philadelphia’s InterAct Theatre Company (World Premiere), quoted b Julia Klein, American Theatre Magazine, 4/9/2024
“…a play that punches well above its weight as a new work; it feels road-tested and ready for prime time. Thematically, though, it could only come as the result of our politics’ perilous recent turns and potential turns; it burns hot with the sear of the zeitgeist. The year 2029 is not far off. It’s up to us to ensure that “The Last Yiddish Speaker” remains speculative fiction, not prophecy. “- John Thomason, Boca Magazine, 11/1/2024
Curtain goes up at 2:oo pm. Come a little early to choose your seats at this open seating performance.
After the performance, we will gather for a reception to gather with each other and discuss the themes of the play.
Special reduced cost for both the performance and the reception: $45
